Three Strategies For Dealing With Care Giving Resistance

  1. Get professional support.  In many cases, the elder may be willing to listen to their physician or lawyer about the need to receive care.
  2. Suggest a short trial period.  Suggest your loved one go through a trial run, allowing them to experience the care first hand before making a final decision.
  3. Discuss how care maintains independence.  In-home care services could help your loved one remain in their home for as long as possible.

Being resistant to care is something that can be overcome by involving them in any decisions being made and continuing to explain benefits of receiving additional help to them.
